Athletics & Physical Education

Athletics

ILBSM offers students a variety of sports clubs. The clubs are designed to emphasise teamwork, giving the student an opportunity to work together towards a common goal. Team sports are one of the most effective ways to grow camaraderie and friendship. It's this shared experience and emotion that builds loyalty and trust within a team. The teams represent ILBSM in competitions throughout the school year against other educational institutions. Each sport is approximately three months in length, are seasonal throughout the school year. The three main sports are:

  • Football
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
Other clubs can be added based on student recommendations and demand.

Physical Education

The mission of the Physical Education program is to provide students with a basic foundation of motor and manipulative skills, an understanding of the importance of physical fitness and sport, and the opportunity to develop effective personal and social skills.
Our aims are to:

  • encourage a healthy and active lifestyle.
  • nurture sportsmanship in all aspects of competition.
  • widen each student’s sporting experience and enjoyment.
  • create a passion for active recreation and sport.
  • assist students in reaching their physical potential in a variety of sporting environments.
Discovering what they like to do, what their aptitudes are at school, and how and where to get involved in physical activity helps them make informed choices about lifelong physical activity. Physical activity helps students develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and in teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, coaching and officiating. Through the range of experiences that PE offers, they learn how to be effective in competitive, creative and challenging situations.

Through these challenges students develop a wide range of skills and the ability to use tactics, strategies and compositional ideas to perform successfully. When they are performing, they think about what they are doing, they analyse the situation and make decisions. They also reflect on their own and others’ performances and find ways to improve upon them. As a result, they develop the confidence to take part in different physical activities and learn about the value of healthy, active lifestyles.
